Time To Move!

With the kind of winter we have endured, many Lexington residents are deciding it is time to sell their houses and move to the carefree living of a senior living community.  Good thinking!  But, how do you get from your current house to there?  According to Lea Nugent, owner of Caring Transitions, there are lots of things to think about.  See her tips on getting through the process:

Visit communities and decide which one feels right to you.  Make a commitment.

Pick a time frame to move – give yourself a minimum of two month, ideally 6 months.

Decide which items you want to keep.  Will you have one or two bedrooms, a study, any outdoor space, a kitchen area?

Distribute items to family members.

Start Decluttering NOW – get rid of paperwork, pictures, cards, phone books.  Make a goal to fill your recycling bin every week from now until you move.

Do you have valuables that you want to sell?  Decide how to accomplish this.  Remember, the sale proceeds can help pay for your upcoming move.

Donate items.

If you are planning to sell your house, select a realtor.  Consider their suggestions on how to prepare your house to put on the market.

Set your move date.  Contract a moving company.

Pack.   Now you are ready to go!

Yes, there are lots of things to do.  But, if you can break each task down into smaller projects and plan them out on your calendar, you can do it.  Plan your work and work your plan.  Think you need help with any of these steps?  Caring Transitions helps families downsize, declutter, pack, move, resettle and sell household items.  They can leave your house completely clean, ready to put on the market.   Call for a free in-home consultation - 859-543-9848.   Ask for their “Moving Checklist & Reminders” Worksheet.
